Organize by Cleaning Out Before Christmas

Christmas is coming, and that means that the kids and family will be getting more stuff, more toys, more clothes, etc.  Before Christmas gets here, it might be a good idea to start cleaning out the older stuff to make space for the new.

For kid’s stuff, this is fairly easy to do. Just go through their things for what they have outgrown – toys and clothes.  Or if they are old enough, let them go through their rooms and clean out. If the items are still in good condition, you could donate them or have a yard sale. Not only does this clear space for more age or size related things, it also teaches children to give.

For the adults, organizing and cleaning out could take a little more time. Decide what you no longer want, need, or have use for. Clean out old dishes or pots and pans to make way for a new set. Go through clothing that just hangs in the closet and isn’t worn.

If you’re like me and have collected a lot of books over the years, you might want to go through your book collection and let some go, especially if they’re for kids and your kids are grown, or simply something you no longer have need for or want. If you homeschool, you can donate or sell the homeschooling books that your kids have outgrown. Homeschooling families are often looking for good used homeschool curriculum.

It’s a good idea to go ahead and start organizing for Christmas and cleaning out anything you want to get rid of, before Christmas gets here. With the Christmas shopping season upon us, you’ll be busy with Christmas preparations soon, so go ahead and get started now and don’t wait.

Some ideas for donating items no longer needed or wanted are: Goodwill, Salvation Army, a toy collection for Christmas, resale shops, etc.  There’s usually always someone that can use something in good condidtion that you have and don’t need anymore. So not only are you cleaning out and having an organized home for Christmas, you’re doing a good dead for someone else – something good and in the Christmas spirit!

Organizing Tips for Keeping the Refrigerator Organized

Almost any place in the house could clutter. Your kitchen may bring about your worst nightmare. This is not surprising because that area of the house is among the most active. You frequent the kitchen, no less. You cook and prepare food there. When you buy grocery items, you put and store perishable and consumable items there. There could be several cabinets that could help keep your kitchen orderly and organized. Your refrigerator could also be a great tool to keep order in that part of the house. Many organization tips are also dealing with how to keep the fridge as orderly and as helpful as it should be.

You may not be fully aware of it, but your own refrigerator may already be cluttering. There might be too much stuff stored inside. You may add up content of the fridge on an everyday basis. At times, food may be stored for longer periods. The fridge could truly be a total mess. It is time to introduce some order into it. Here are several guidelines.

Check your refrigerator everyday. There might be food content that should not be stored in it anymore. Does it look like you are keeping a science experiment at the fridge? Be meticulous. Reality check. Inspect all food stored inside. Are there foods that are already accumulating moss-like structures? Are there contents that do not smell good anymore? You could start throwing away such foods. They only make your ref messy.

Check the milk boxes. If the content already smells sour, throw it away. Do not wait until the expiry of milk. Most of the time, it could already smell foul a few days after you opened it. This tip could also serve as a safety precaution. Also be particularly meticulous about how other dairy products in the fridge look and smell. Be specifically careful about cheese, butter, and ice creams.

Check the freezer? Is it already cluttering? Perhaps, you should start taking out some of the freezer’s content. Meat and livestock that are stored there for about a month or longer should already be taken out. The quality of such meat might not be fit for human consumption anymore. De-cluttering the freezer could also serve as a strategy to lower your possible electric bill.

Are the vegetables still edible? If they are already spoiled and are not in good condition, throw them away. Such vegetables may incur and produce foul smell that may linger in the entire refrigerator. The same case goes for fruits.

Make it a point to clean the fridge at least once a week. You should check the freshness and safety of all the content. Just like in all other organization tips, throw away everything that could already be considered as clutter. Do not stuff too much leftovers. If you could not help it, make sure you immediately consume such in a few hours, not days.

Organizing Tips for Households with Large Families

Everyone in the family could really contribute to a lot of clutter at home. You might notice that when you were still living alone, there was already too much clutter at home. It is not surprising that when you married and started having a growing family, your house instantly turns into a grand place full of clutters and things scattered everywhere. You need to sort out things. Check out the following organization tips to help make your home organized and systematic at the same time.

You could begin the initiative by organizing all your clothes and shoes. Of course, each member of the family could have multiple numbers of clothes and shoes. Most are keeping items even if unused for the longest time. It would be best if you would designate a storage cabinet where all shoes of family members would be stored. It would not be likely if any shoes would be left at the door entrance. When shoes are scattered at the floor, anyone could easily kick them off. When that happens, it could be hard to find the missing match. Finding that match could also aggravate or worsen the cluttering problem. Clothes that are unused for the longest time should already be taken out of the house. Perhaps, you should donate them to charities.

Children of course bring home lots of school papers and artworks. Such papers could get mixed with your daily mail. In a matter of days, the papers could pile up and would look like a total mess. Resolve this problem through going through your children’s paper works on a daily basis. Keep those that need to be kept and throw away those that could be instantly discarded. It would help if you would put a child’s paper works into a separate bin or plastic bag so it would not mix up with papers of your other children. Sort your mails and bills daily or as often as you could. Do not let it pile up. Credit card bills should be instantly burned up or shredded after you settle the amount. You could also keep papers for recycling.

Always clean the house. Put out or keep children’s toys where they should be. It would help if you would designate a drawer or cabinet to store all of your children’s stuff. Be sure not to mix their toys so that they would not create a mess whenever they find their items. Again, old toys should go. Your child might have sentimental values or attachments with some, but those that are practically worthless should already go. They would just pile up.

Don’t stuff your home with too much decors and ornaments. It would be ideal if you would become minimalist. Arrange your furniture and appliances in a way that everyone in the house could have adequate and luxurious free space for extra movements. Your children might run across the rooms every now and then, so be sure no fragile items are displayed.
